floating away
off like a bird

paper like they storm
drink only the best
don't look so forlorn

our milky eyes will wake
startled by their cries
a starling steely eyed
took off in fright

and flew up past the bridge
drawn to a high
parting ways with ease
we drift gently by

and slowly eat our fill
they bring the bodies by
three birds now calling
circling the sky

the clouds grew dark and grey
water mold the dry
cracked sun split earth
the sand filled our eyes

with hope for something real
something that will stay
mirage fill the night
a feast is portrayed

but still our bellies growl
our chests heave and ache
a longing for a bridge
a longing for escape

but deeper down we fall
scraping all the way
let time heal our wounds
down here nothing stays
